AI in Digital Signage: What’s Real in 2026

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future possibility for digital signage — it’s a current reality. The Alliance’s AI Agent feature brings three practical AI capabilities to screen networks today.

1. AI Content Generation

Creating compelling digital signage content has always required either design skills or the time to find and customise templates. AI content generation removes this barrier.

How it works in the Alliance:

  • Describe what you want (“A promotion for our Friday happy hour, 5–8pm, 2-for-1 cocktails, lively and colourful”)
  • The AI generates a complete content item: layout, copy, colour palette, and animation
  • Review, adjust, and publish in under 2 minutes

The AI understands the context of digital signage — it generates content sized for screen, with appropriate text size, contrast, and animation style. It doesn’t require any design knowledge from the operator.

Use cases:

  • Rapid response to unexpected events (“The match tonight went to extra time — extend the opening hours screen”)
  • Personalised content for specific audiences without manual design
  • A/B test variations generated automatically

2. Audience Detection and Content Adaptation

Using camera-based computer vision (privacy-preserving, no facial recognition, no personal data stored), the Alliance’s AI can:

  • Estimate the age range and gender of viewers
  • Count the number of people in front of the screen
  • Measure dwell time and attention direction
  • Adapt content dynamically based on the audience

Example: A screen in a gym shows different content when it detects a predominantly young audience (new workout programmes, protein shakes) vs. an older audience (recovery, low-impact classes, physio services).

Privacy safeguards:

  • No facial recognition
  • No individual tracking
  • All processing is on-device (no images leave the camera)
  • Aggregate statistics only stored
  • GDPR-compliant data handling

3. Predictive Content Scheduling

AI analyses historical patterns — time of day, day of week, weather, local events — to predict what content will perform best and when. It then recommends a scheduling strategy or, with permission, implements it automatically.

What it predicts:

  • Which content generates the highest dwell time and attention
  • Which promotions drive the highest conversion (measured against POS data integration)
  • When specific audiences are most likely to be present
  • When emergency override capability is most likely to be needed

4. Automated Translation and Localisation

For multi-market deployments, AI translation generates localised content automatically:

  • Translate content into any supported language
  • Adapt idiom and tone for local markets (not just word-for-word translation)
  • Right-to-left layout support for Arabic and Hebrew
  • Regional compliance check (some claims can’t be made in certain markets)

5. Content Compliance Checking

AI can check content for potential compliance issues before it goes live:

  • Price claims (“Were these prices recently advertised higher than displayed?”)
  • Allergen display (is the required allergen information present?)
  • Accessibility (is the text contrast ratio sufficient? Is there text-to-speech content for all important information?)
  • Brand compliance (are the correct logo versions being used? Is the colour within the brand palette?)

What AI Cannot Do (Yet)

Replace human judgement — AI-generated content needs human review before publication. The AI doesn’t know that the Managing Director left last month and shouldn’t appear on the recognition screen. It doesn’t know that the brand had a PR issue with that colour last year.

Understand context fully — AI content generation works from text descriptions. It doesn’t know that your restaurant has a Victorian interior that shouldn’t be paired with ultra-modern content, unless you tell it.

Guarantee regulatory compliance — AI compliance checking reduces risk but doesn’t eliminate it. For regulated content (financial, pharmaceutical, healthcare), human compliance review remains essential.

The Alliance AI Agent

The Alliance AI Agent is a conversational interface that lets operators manage their screen network through natural language:

  • “What’s currently playing on the Manchester screens?”
  • “Create a holiday promotion for all retail locations and schedule it from December 1st”
  • “Which screens have been offline in the last 24 hours?”
  • “Show me the content that generated the most dwell time last month”

The AI Agent understands the structure of your screen network, your content library, and your scheduling history, allowing sophisticated queries and actions through natural conversation.
