Digital Signage for Hotel Spas and Wellness Centres

Elegant digital screen in a hotel spa reception showing treatment menu

Digital Signage in the Spa Environment

A spa is a sanctuary. Everything in the environment contributes to the guest’s sense of escape, relaxation, and wellbeing. Digital screens, if implemented poorly, undermine this atmosphere. Implemented well, they enhance it.

The key principle for spa digital signage: restraint. Fewer screens, carefully placed, with considered content. A single beautiful screen showing slowly shifting nature imagery is more valuable than six screens promoting treatments at every turn.

Reception and Welcome Area

The spa reception is the transition zone between the hotel and the spa. The screen here sets the tone:

Atmosphere content:

  • Slow-motion nature footage (water, forest, candlelight)
  • Soft abstract motion graphics in the spa’s colour palette
  • Photography of the treatment spaces and facilities

Practical content:

  • Today’s available treatment slots (times with availability)
  • Featured treatments with brief descriptions
  • Facility overview (pool, sauna, steam room, relaxation suite)
  • Opening hours

The balance should lean heavily toward atmosphere content. Practical information can be displayed briefly and then return to atmosphere content.

Treatment Menu Displays

A screen-based treatment menu offers advantages over printed menus:

  • Seasonal updates without reprinting (winter warming treatments replace summer cool-down treatments automatically)
  • Video demonstrations of signature treatments
  • Ingredient and provenance storytelling (“Our stone massage uses volcanic basalt from Iceland”)
  • Pricing updated instantly when promotions change

Design guidance:

  • Minimal text — 15 words maximum per treatment description
  • Professional photography for each treatment category
  • Muted, warm colour palette consistent with the spa’s aesthetic
  • Soft, slow transitions — nothing jarring in a relaxation environment

Upsell and Package Content

The quiet period before a treatment is the right moment to introduce enhancement options:

  • “Upgrade your facial with our Vitamin C enhancement — available today for £25 more”
  • “Complete your retreat: add an aromatherapy back treatment to your package”
  • Gift voucher promotions (“Treat someone you love”)
  • Retail product recommendations matching the treatment they’re about to receive

Placement: A small screen in the quiet room or waiting area, visible but not intrusive. Volume off — text only.

Relaxation Suite Atmosphere Screens

In relaxation areas where guests wait between treatments or unwind afterwards, screens can contribute to the atmosphere:

  • 4K nature footage (ocean, forest, mountain, rainfall)
  • Abstract art in motion
  • Mindfulness prompts and breathing exercises
  • Silence: no sound, no captions, no text overlays

This use of screens is about creating an environment, not communicating information. The screen is part of the room design.

Thermal Suite Information

Spas with thermal facilities (sauna, steam room, ice fountain, experience showers) use screens to guide guests:

  • Thermal journey recommendations (suggested sequence and timing)
  • Safety guidance (time limits in each facility, hydration reminders)
  • Current facility status (sauna currently at temperature, steam room closed for maintenance)

A screen at the entrance to the thermal suite with simple, clear guidance improves the guest experience and reduces staff interruptions.

Retail and Product Promotion

Spa retail is a significant revenue line for many hotel spas. Screens near the product display:

  • Featured product of the month with ingredient photography
  • “Your therapist recommends” alignment with today’s most popular treatments
  • Gifting options and gift wrapping availability
  • Loyalty and repeat purchase promotions

Booking and Availability

A subtle screen showing same-day availability encourages impulse bookings from hotel guests who haven’t planned a treatment:

  • “Available this afternoon: Deep Tissue Massage 2pm, Hot Stone 4pm”
  • “Book at reception or call [extension]”
  • “Last spots: treat yourself today”

Implementation Considerations for Spa Environments

Screen finish: Use screens with matte anti-glare finishes in spas. The clinical appearance of glossy screens undermines the warm atmosphere. Matte finish commercial displays blend better with spa interiors.

Brightness: Spas are intentionally low-light environments. Set screen brightness to 30–40% (100–150 nits) rather than the standard commercial setting of 250–400 nits. High brightness is jarring in low-light relaxation spaces.

Audio: Keep screens muted in all spa areas. The ambient sound environment is carefully controlled in a spa — a notification sound or video audio would undermine this.

Placement: Avoid placing screens where they can be seen from treatment rooms. Guests in treatments should not be aware of screens. Treatment rooms should be completely screen-free.

Content management: Assign spa manager access in the Alliance dashboard so the spa team can update treatment availability and promotions independently of the main hotel team.
