Digital concourse screens in a sports arena showing food menus and event information

Digital Signage at Scale: Sports Venues

Sports arenas and stadiums represent some of the largest and most complex digital signage deployments in existence. A Premier League ground may have 300+ screens throughout the concourses, hospitality areas, media centre, and administrative offices. An NBA arena might have 500+ screens plus the main scoreboard and surrounding fascia displays.

The Alliance platform is used in sports venues of all sizes — from League Two football clubs to major concert arenas — managing content across the entire estate.

Concourse and Corridor Screens

The concourse during the pre-match and half-time rush is the highest-footfall period of the event. Screens here must be effective in a crowded, noisy environment:

Content for concourse screens:

  • Match programme information (team sheets, today’s official)
  • Food and beverage menu boards for nearby concession stands
  • Next match and ticket information
  • Club store promotions
  • Sponsor content (stadium naming rights, shirt sponsor, official partners)
  • Safety announcements and evacuation routes

Design for concourse viewing:

  • Very large text — readable from 5–8 metres with peripheral vision
  • High contrast — dark backgrounds with white or bright text
  • No more than 5–7 words of primary information
  • Strong use of brand colours and imagery

Food and Beverage Menu Boards

Concession stands are significant revenue centres for sports venues. Digital menu boards:

  • Update prices and availability instantly (a pie sold out at half time — remove it from the menu)
  • Display allergen information clearly
  • Show promotions (combo deals, meal deals)
  • Run different menus for different stands (family concourse vs. premium concourse)

The Alliance integrates with hospitality and event POS systems (Lightspeed, Clover, NCR) to pull live availability.

Hospitality Suite and Premium Area Screens

Premium areas have more sophisticated content needs:

Hospitality suite screens:

  • Match statistics in real time (integration with Opta, Stats Perform data feeds)
  • Club news and player profiles
  • Today’s menu with allergen information
  • Table seating plan
  • Official match programme content

Corporate box screens:

  • Company-specific welcome messages
  • Private dining menu
  • Match schedule for the season
  • Club partnership content

Fan Engagement Screens

Sports venues increasingly use digital signage as a fan engagement platform:

  • Social media wall: Tweets, Instagram posts, and TikToks from fans using the event hashtag, displayed on concourse screens
  • Fan cam: Images of fans from the crowd, displayed on concourse screens
  • Voting and polls: “Man of the Match vote — text 1 for [player], 2 for [player]”
  • Trivia and competitions: Pre-match trivia on concourse screens with prize draw
  • Countdown timer: Countdown to kick-off, half-time duration timer

Wayfinding

Large venues are complex to navigate for first-time visitors:

  • Section and row finders at multiple entry points
  • Facility locations (toilets, first aid, accessible viewing, family area)
  • Nearby concession stands and what they sell
  • Exit guidance post-match (to avoid crowd crush)

Interactive touchscreen kiosks at venue entrances allow fans to search for their seat, find facilities, or browse the event information.

Multi-Sport and Multi-Event Venues

Arenas that host multiple sports and events (concerts, award shows, boxing) need flexible content management:

  • Sport/event-specific content that changes with each booking
  • Sponsor obligations that vary by event
  • Safety and evacuation content that adapts to the layout (a boxing layout differs from a hockey layout)

The Alliance’s scheduling system supports event-based content switching. The venue operations team selects the event type and all screens automatically switch to the appropriate content set for that event.

Post-Match Content

After the final whistle, the fan experience continues:

  • Result display and goal scorers
  • Man of the Match announcement
  • Next home match information
  • Wayfinding for post-match departure (exit routes, public transport)
  • Club shop closing time reminder

Advertising and Commercial Content

Sports venues are premium advertising environments. Digital screens allow:

  • Sponsor rotation (official partners get specified minutes per hour on concourse screens)
  • Programmatic DOOH advertising for non-sponsor advertisers
  • Proof-of-play reporting for sponsor compliance
  • Flexible content windows (official partners get 30% of concourse screen time, non-partners 20%, club content 50%)
